The Outline

01

The Overview

During this project, I conducted market research, cost analysis, user-centered design, product usability, form and appearance, emotional connection, materials selection, production processes, user comfort and safety, accessibility, human factors, and environmental impacts.

02

The Problem

Many millennials avoid owning houseplants due to anxiety about proper care, fearing they may accidentally kill the plants. The biggest challenges include determining sunlight needs, understanding water requirements, and knowing how to prune. Despite these concerns, a significant amount of millennials still identify as plant parents and acknowledge the benefits of plant care, which can enhance home aesthetics, air quality, and personal well-being.

03

The Goal

Create a unique plant stand that requires less attention so that users don't feel stressed when trying to take care of a plant.

These are the main creative steps I took in developing the Verdant Vue Planter - from first sketch to final decisions.

Divergent Ideation

Beginning with a number of different pathways, I sketched out some basic designs for an overall look.

Convergent Ideation

I then took some sketches and added more depth and detail to them; narrowing down what I was aiming for in my designs.

First Renders

I went forward with two choices and rendered them out to see what was most appealing and viable to move forward with.

Technical Drawing

I later created a technical drawing of my final design choice that highlights how the planter works.

Materials Selection

I wanted to keep a natural look the the base of the planter with dark oak wood, lined with liquid plastic to seal the bowl from water damage, and a ceramic inner bowl to house the plants. The overall holder is made from ABS plastic and has an LED lighting system installed.
